![]() OUTPOST VETERANS & FIRST RESPONDERS On Saturday, July 19th at 10 am will be our next FREE BREAKFAST for vets and first responders (active and retired). Bring your sons and daughters with you. Our speaker will be Major (retired) Jim Burns, a decorated Viet Nam hero. Here is a summary of Jim's career: Jim Burns was born in Buffalo, NY in 1947; graduated from HS at 17 in 1965; and entered Army in Nov 1967 following 1.5 years of college and work at Bethlehem Steel. He served in all of the Active Cavalry Regiments (ACR), serving in Vietnam starting in October 1968. He was promoted to Platoon Sergeant and was wounded three times in combat. He attended Artillery Officer Candidate School in 1972 and was the first graduate commissioned in the Cavalry from the artillery school. He commanded two companies and led a Brigade S3 before being assigned to Engineer units in Korea. Jim received early promotion to Major and was selected to attend the Army Command and General Staff College. He was then assigned to Guam and returned to Korea in 1988. His terminal assignment was as Senior Strategist and Security Coordination Manager for J5, US Forces Korea. Following 22.5 years of active duty he retired in 1990. He was asked to apply for a civilian International Relations position in US Forces Korea as a GM-13. He served as the International Relations Officer and Alternate Secretary to the Status of Forces Agreement from 1990 until 2000. He was reassigned to the Pentagon, Army G3, as a war-fighter and Doctrine Analyst. His office barely missed the airplane that crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11/2001. Jim accepted a disability retirement in November 2003. In January 2007, he was hit head-on by a speeding motorcycle and spent the next 27 months either in the hospital or in a bed recuperating from over 23 operations on his left leg. Jim moved to Texas in 2019 where he met his wonderful wife and married in 2021. Join our Outpost Group to receive updates and make life-long friend connections! GRACE OUTPOST
